3. If that digit is 5 or greater, increase the target digit by 1.
4. If that digit is less than 5, keep the target digit unchanged.
5. Remove or replace digits to the right according to the number type (change to zeros for whole numbers, or drop them entirely for decimals).

• Nearest 10: Rounding 42 to the nearest 10. The target is 4. The digit to inspect is 2 (less than 5). Keep the 4 unchanged and replace the 2 with zero. Final answer: 40.
